Noom is an innovative nutrition app that aims to help users achieve their health and fitness goals by making significant changes to their diet and lifestyle. To exclude foods, Noom uses a stoplight system to classify foods into categories that should be prioritized or consumed in moderation.

Foods labeled as “green” are low in calories. Offer nutritional value. This category typically includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nonfat dairy products. The “yellow” category consists of meats, eggs, beans, and fat dairy products, which should make up the majority of your diet. Conversely, “orange” foods are higher in calories. Should be consumed sparingly.

This category consists of oils, fried foods, nuts, seeds, pastries, sweets, and certain meats, like bacon, ham, sausage, and pepperoni. It’s important to note that these color categories don’t label foods as “good” or “bad,” but rather indicate the recommended proportions of each food group in your diet.

Noom complements fasting programs by providing guidance on what to eat during non-fasting periods and helping individuals tackle common challenges associated with intermittent fasting.

Ideal for: individuals who’re new to fasting and need assistance in incorporating this dietary practice into their routine accurately. The Do Fasting app aims to simplify fasting for beginners by starting with a quiz that generates a personalized fasting plan based on your current lifestyle. Users are then encouraged to utilize features such as a fasting timer, a fasting meal plan, and a library of workouts to achieve their health and fitness goals.

The main feature of the app is its fasting schedule and timer. Additionally, it includes functionalities for tracking weight, water intake, and steps taken for calorie consumption.

The app also comes with a collection of more than 5,000 healthy recipes and gives you access to various online workout programs that include video demonstrations. In general, the app offers information and content; however, some users have expressed their dissatisfaction with the user interface.

While the app provides a library of recipes users have requested search filters or the ability to filter for specific types of food. In my opinion, this app is an investment for newcomers to fasting. Those who are more experienced may prefer other options.

It’s worth noting that in order to get a subscription quote you’ll need to complete a quiz and provide your email address. After completing the quiz our results showed that we were only eligible, for the 3 month subscription. This differs from what’s mentioned in the FAQs where it states that users have the option to choose the length of their subscription.

Here’s what we like about the app:

  • We appreciate the reminders and motivational notifications it provides.

Intermittent Fasting App: Simple

Intermittent Fasting App Simple

Important. Specifications:

Subscription options include $12.99 for a 12-week subscription or $49.99 for a yearly subscription.
Platforms supported: Android and iOS.
Ratings; Rated 4.3/5 stars on Google Play and 4.7/5 stars on the Apple App Store.

This is perfect for individuals looking for guidance on fasting, nutrition, and maintaining their weight loss journey. Simple goes beyond being a fasting tracker; it is a health app designed to help users lose weight, develop a healthier relationship with food, and adopt sustainable lifestyle choices through guidance, education, and accountability. Upon downloading Simple, users are prompted to answer in-depth questions about aspects like age, weight, dietary preferences, eating habits, target goals, sleep patterns, and activity level.

All aimed at achieving the desired results efficiently. For those focused on shedding pounds, the app allows for setting a goal weight. Provides an estimated timeline based on the given guidance for achieving it. While achieving the goal relies on factors too, this feature proves to be useful.

With Simple, users have the option to choose a 16-hour fasting period and an eight-hour window for eating. Personally, I went for an eating schedule from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Adjustments can be made according to preferences. One thing that stood out to me about Simple is its approach to tracking meals. By logging each food item, users can simply enter a description of their entire meal, like “Greek yogurt, blueberries, and granola.” Simple then evaluates the meal. Gives it a score ranging from low to optimal.

Moreover, the app features an AI assistant that can answer questions, offer guidance on recipes and workout ideas and provide strategies for improving meal scores. Users even have the option to log their meals by taking photos or describing them using the AI functionality. Simple also provides articles written by a dietitian, which further enhance its advice and fasting support. All Simple is an excellent choice for those interested in exploring intermittent fasting with added assistance throughout their weight loss journey. Currently, there is a 60% discount on Simples premium plans.

What we find valuable:

  • The fasting program and nutritional guidance are tailored to individual needs, taking into account factors such as age, gender, and personal objectives.
  • An AI assistant simplifies the process of tracking food intake and provides suggestions for recipes. Offers workout ideas.
  • The app allows for monitoring of food consumption, water intake, and activity levels. It also integrates with health apps and fitness trackers to provide an approach to wellness.
  • Rather than promoting food shame or crash dieting, the emphasis is on making sustainable and healthy lifestyle changes.

Points to consider:

  • Its worth noting that the nutritional information provided may not be entirely accurate since the app doesn’t consider portion sizes and relies on descriptions of meals.
  • Some users have reported experiencing glitches in the app that make it challenging to log meals or modify entries.

What is intermittent fasting?

Intermittent fasting is an approach to eating that focuses more on the timing of meals than the specific content. Of following meal plans intermittent fasting involves setting specific windows of time for eating and fasting.

There are methods of fasting all aiming to reduce daily calorie intake. One popular method is the 16/8 method, in which you fast for 16 hours a day and have an eight hour window for eating. This method proves convenient as it doesn’t extend calorie restriction beyond 16 hours. Many individuals commence their eating period around noon. Conclude it at 8 p.m.

Another method is the 5:2 approach, wherein you eat normally for five days a week and significantly reduce calorie intake for two consecutive days. Typically, people fast on Wednesdays and Sundays. Follow your eating patterns throughout the remainder of the week. Prior consultation with a healthcare-registered dietitian is recommended before adopting this method.

The extreme technique is the alternate day method, which involves alternating between one day of eating and one day of complete fasting. This approach requires consideration and consultation with a healthcare provider or registered dietitian. It’s important to remember that understanding the principles and potential risks associated with fasting is crucial before incorporating it into your lifestyle.

The Benefits of Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent fasting can be a tool for losing weight as it reduces calorie intake and encourages the use of stored fat for energy. It has been proven to be effective in delivering results from forms of calorie restriction. Additionally, intermittent fasting has the added advantage of discouraging late-night eating, which enhances sleep quality and optimizes our body clocks.

In terms of health benefits, intermittent fasting can improve metabolic markers by enhancing insulin sensitivity and regulating blood sugar levels, thus reducing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. It also contributes to heart health by lowering blood pressure, total cholesterol levels, and inflammation.

Moreover, intermittent fasting promotes longevity by triggering a process known as autophagy during periods of fasting. This process helps eliminate damaged cells and cellular components, thereby improving health.

One key advantage of fasting is its simplicity. Unlike meal plans or strict dietary requirements, intermittent fasting offers an approach to weight loss that is easier for many people to follow as a practical dietary regimen.

How to Select the Best Intermittent Fasting App?

When choosing the fasting application for your needs, it’s important to consider several factors that align with your health and fitness goals. These factors encompass the app’s attributes and capabilities the way it looks and feels, opinions, from users and your budget.

It’s advisable to search for features like a timer for fasting, meal plans or recipes calorie tracking, monitoring water intake, a supportive community and educational resources related to fasting. Additionally it’s crucial to evaluate user feedback to determine if the app is easy to use and intuitive. An interface that is cluttered or confusing can hinder your ability to effectively track your fasting schedule. Taking into account consumer reviews can provide insights into the apps features and user friendliness.

Closing Thoughts

When choosing the fasting apps we took into consideration factors such as the apps user interface, ease of use, functionality, features and our own personal experience, with these apps. Our main priority is to showcase products that’re of quality and can truly assist you in achieving your health goals related to wellness and fitness.
